Urnes Stave Church
Visited Norway recently and created this small study of the wonderful Urnes carvings...used pen and ink on the outer deeper relief areas and pencil on the inner shallow parts of the design...have always loved Celtic/anglo-saxon/Viking arts so seeing this was very inspiring! The drawing is in black and white so far, colour here came quickly from photoshop, but I intend to use more traditional methods in inks/acrylic etc to experiment with colour over my own prints next.

Frankenstein's Monster
`Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even YOU turned from me in disgust? God, in pity, made man beautiful and alluring, after his own image; but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance. Satan had his companions, fellow devils, to admire and encourage him, but I am solitary and abhorred.
I was dependent on none and related to none. The path of my departure was free, and there was none to lament my annihilation. My person was hideous and my stature gigantic. What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them.

Watchmaker 4
Another watch-maker commission.
This one was to be an older period.
His colours were to be blue-themed.

'Brian' the Watch-maker
Commission figure...he was to be older, a bit scruffy, plump with glasses and a dirty apron. I thought his name was Brian for some reason and my customer is keeping it!! They were pleased with him and said,
"He is amazing even better than the pictures!"
So that was really nice ;)

New Year new beginnings :)
I'm starting off the new year with a couple of 'Watchmaker' figures I've been asked to make. I thought I'd also share my old children's fairy story book with illustrations by Hilda Boswell. As a child I had many books with her artwork in them and I am certain she made a lasting impression on me for the good!! :0)

Happy New Year 2014: Looking back and Looking forward!
It is high time I got back to making some new work...so I am looking back at some older figures I've not shared here in blog-land before as I am also thinking about and seeking new inspiration. My eyesight has been letting me down for my close-work lately but I'm now the proud owner of some new spectacles...not QUITE as good as Dame Edna's...but hopefully they'll give my Methuselan Peepers a new lease of life!!
This is a little lady from 2008
