Mad Girls Love Song

I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead

I think I made you up inside my head

Sylvia Plath

The Golden Child

...I was in a long line that had no beginning and no end...I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who were to come...I looked back and saw my mother, and her mother, and all our mothers, and infront to see my daughter, and her daughter, and the daughters upon daughters beyond....and their eyes were my eyes.....

( inspired by Richard Llewellin's 'How Green was my Valley' )

The Golden Child

I'm Back!! A new drawing 'The Golden Child' to mark a special moment in my family...this is a drawing about Alchemy...change, regeneration, transformation...about what is really important and precious in your life ;)

Retreat

I've not posted much lately I know, and I'm sad to say due to recent events that I have stopped creating any art at the moment. I hope this may change, and if it does I will be back, but until that happens I will be spending a lot less time on the internet. I'm not cutting myself off completely, but please expect delays if you ask me anything ;) I'm very grateful to all my friends who have been so kind with their encouragement and support.

Chief Bromden

The glass splashed out like bright cold water baptizing the sleeping earth. 'Geese up there white man. You know it. Geese this year...and last year...and the year before and the year before...and I knew this time I had them beat.'

'Who is this Harlequin?' said the Ticktockman

"And so it goes. And so it goes. And so it goes goes goes goes goes tick tock tick tocktick tock and one day we no longer let time serve us, we serve time and we are slaves of the schedule, bound into a life predicated on restrictions because the system will not function if we don't keep the schedule tight."
('repent Harlequin!' said the ticktockman by Harlan Ellison)

Inspired partly by that story ... a celebration of civil disobedience!

Harlequin further details

The Harlequin laughed and laughed, and apologised profusely....everyone was dumped thisway and thataway in a jackstraw tumble, still laughing, popping little jellybeans of childish colour into their mouths...it was a holiday, a jollity, an absolute insanity, a giggle, but.....

Standing at the Crossroads

12th scale figure of Baron Samedi, Vodan Loa of death and resurrection, keeper of the eternal crossroads.

Baron Samedi

I standin' here waitin' baby
With my heart right in my hand
Been thinking 'bout my baby
But she's out with another man

Wuthering Heights

Cathy and Heathcliff from Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights.

"I was going to the Grange one evening...a dark evening threatening thunder

...and just at the turn to the Heights I encountered a little boy with sheep and two lambs crying terribly....'There's Heathcliff and a woman yonder, and I daren't pass them!"

'I know that ghosts have wandered on earth.....'

Wuthering Heights

I first read Wuthering Heights in about 1976 and it has been my favourite book ever since...Heathcliff has always been the love of my life...carved 'in a wild workshop...the crag took human shape...dark and frowning, terrible and beautiful...the moorland moss clothes him and heath with blooming bells and balmy fragrance grows faithfully close to the giant's foot' .

( currer bell)

I have dared to try to create him at last....

November AIM magazine

November's Artisans in Miniature magazine is out again!

Jimi Hendrix

I think I've completed the study of Jimi...

there are some words in the background taken from 'love or confusion' which relate to the story of Icarus... as does the verse :0)

Drawing Jimi

I started a drawing of Jimi Hendrix about a week ago... and I took him on holiday this week and have been working on the face...this is another wip as a few folks have asked me how he was going ;0) It's really quite a simple pencil study...about 90cm square...to make me really look carefully at his face...he's another figure I am just aching to make soon :0)

Voodoo Chile...the Demon Lover

A 'seasonal' theme for Samhain and All Soul's towards the end of the month...'the demon lover'. ...it's a muse about what constitutes 'reality', the power of the mind, about taboos, and a few other things...

It's linked to the voodoo chile song...and I also found a poem by Sylvia Plath which is wonderful too 'On Looking into the Eyes of a Demon Lover'

Eliza

A young woman c1896 ...
...perhaps off to work in a flower shop.

"I want to be a lady...
I'm a good girl I am!"

Venus in Furs

A drawing using the song by the velvet underground 'Venus in Furs' as a starting point...although this is not Severin and Wanda...this is perhaps more likely the Unknown Man from the original book... I wanted the image to say something about strength in vulnerability, trust and intimate love....amongst other things...
